Hi my Amigos, I have a 1965 Dodge Dart GT with the Slant six 225 automatic, as I'm finding things to repair to make it a good daily dirver I found out that my Radiator is leaking and the Radiator Shop guy told me that it's the upper tank that has been patched several times,,So I wonder if nay one here have done any swapt for a more modern radiator since this one is not longer available?

I was just going to order the V8 radiator since there is so many of them for sale anywhere even at the local long drugs store you can find one for V8's, but nothing for the Sacred Slant SIxes, I'm like ,,,WTGWSR&^^^!!!

Any ideas,,Hoses modification,,etc,,etc,is welcome,,other than that just watch me go Mad and get to work doing the research and development of this swapt my self.

Thanks.

militos.

A different radiator can be installed but plan to drill some new holes and make other mods to make it fit.

Another option is to find another used early A-Body radiator and pick all the best parts to make one good one.
(there will likely be some at the SL6 Car Show in Redwood City on 9-28-14)
I think I also have a couple of good used ones.

Consider an F-body (Aspen, Volare) slant six radiator. It might require a different bottom hose, and a plain (non-lever) radiator cap. The mounting holes are different, but that's easy to fix.

Im running an F-body radiator in my 73 Duster (A-body) and the mounting holes all lined up if I recall correctly. the radiator is a couple inches narrower than the original one but it has big flange on the side that made it all line up including matching up with the hoses. (it was a Sunday night favor from a friend when I blew up the old radiator while moving back from california)

x2 on the f-body rad. Picked one from a 80ish aspen and it dropped in my dart sport like it was made for it. I can't attest to the different sizes, as the radiator was missing when I bought the car.

I was using an F-body radiator I pulled from a junkyard Aspen myself. It eventually started leaking - getting a 30 year old radiator wasn't the most permanent sort of repair...

If he has the early core support there's no chance in hell an F-body radiator will fit, he needs a 19-inch wide one.

I bought one of the fancy aluminum ones from Randy Pettey but even that doesn't fit right.

Interesting, but not my experience. My Valiant is a late '64, and the F-body radiator fit easily. It had a wide flange on one side. That simply required locating and drilling a couple of holes. It was a little taller, but cleared the hood with a standard cap. The core support wasn't modified at all.

My experience with a toasted 63 Dart radiator was to find one on sale for a 76 or so Dart on craigslist here local. I got it last year and it fit like a champ with a little coaching on the holes on the wide flanged side.
The only other thing I noticed was that the radiator was closer to the fan but that was not a problem as I was going to move to electric fans.

You might have to use different hoses as well, depending on if you get a "new" replacement rad. I ordered mine for the D100, and it was totally wrong, but i made it work. The lower hose was fine, but i had to trial fit the upper and trim the new hose for it. Good luck!

Great thanks every one, I finally found a Radiator place that dide restore my radiator, they opened the tanks and welded the tanks ffrom the inside, they wire flushed'cleaned the core, the core is a 3 row and the technician mentioned that it was cloged real bad.

So I installed the radiator 2 days ago and until today I had time to drive the Dart,,it did help to low the temperature down.

By the way I when't to the autoparts store trying to buy the Temperature sending unit that bolts right into the Head by the thermostat housing and they din't have the right one,,,so I got one that I have left from my old 63 Falcon 200Cid, and that one fit and looked the same,,so I installed that one and I don't know if it's the correct one?? my temperature remains a little over pas alf way in the gauge, I'll try to get e infra red themp... measuring device to read better.

until then.

Thanks.
militos.
