Swap in the 73 but with the headers, two barrel setup, oilpan, and oil pickup tube off the 85, then rebuild the 85.

Hey guys I got a question and would wonder where I should go. I hurt my /6 running at the bog, It's a 85 slant and I believe a rod bearing let go but she knocking whenever u get on it, it's basically stock motor with a 2bbl set up and cliff shorties , and I found a engine outta a 1973 dart that's had all new bearings put in but about 2 hours away from me. I think that's the bad a$$ block with the forged bottom end but I may be wrong, I got money to do ethier one so main question is which one would be more heavier duty the rebuild kit or the other six outta the dart is about the same price. The one outta dart got replaced with a v8 |

Is the 85 a hydraulic lifter engine or has it been converted back to solid lifter. 73 engine would be a solid lifter engine. There are many more slant six camshaft choices for solid lifter engines. Concurring with Reed; if you are running stock lower end with super six induction, swapping in the 73 would be much easer and quicker and most likely cheaper than a partial rebuild or bearing repair. I bet once the damaged engine is opened up you will find additional deficiencies that will need to be addressed involving a machine shop; save that for a winter project. |

The 73 block has the forged bottom end? Yes the 85 has hydr lifters, I think I read somewhere useing a older style block (pre1976) with a after 1980s head and I also read u can't mill as much off of the 85 because of the hydr lifters, need some schooling lol |
