Post subject:  Turbo Timing Compremise

I am using a dual vacuum advance/boost retard unit to retard timing under boost conditions back to a total of 18degs. I mounted the unit to my dizzy fiderly but the results are worth the effort. I pulled the dizzy a limited the centrifical advance to 5degs and set the initial timing to 23degs as boost comes on it retards the engine 10degs ( the unit has 10degs boost retard and 10degs vacuum advance either side of its neutral position.) The added bonus here is the timing is not locked at 18degs all the time, I tried this worked OK in a boosted situation but was still only 18degs on cruise which increases cylinder temps, using the vacuum advance function on this unit on cruise it brings the total timing too 38degs the engine runs smoother/cooler with better fuel economy, when boost is present again the unit restarts 20degs back to 18degs under WOT. It's hard to say how progressive the transition is, it's working well in my situation, I'm using the ported/timed fitting on the Holley 390 I am using.

I see you have a Turbo Slant, Im new to this what mods do you have with what power results. The transision from Vacuum to boost is to slow I have found using the timed port on the Carb Im going to try the boost retard side direct from the Carb hat that is where the fuel regulator is boost referenced

I haven't answered your question yet because I haven't any answers for you....yet. I plan to run the car for the first time in the next couple of weeks, if the weather holds; maybe I will know something then.

My apologies.

Bill needs to post videos of his photoshopped car running.

Number one; I don't have any videos of my car running, and number two, I don't have any knowledge (nor the program,) of photoshop.

Better, I get it to the strip soon and take some videos of that.

Gettin' closer... by the day!
