What is the best way to run a conversion cable kit from the original mechanical? We've gone to the Clifford Performance 2 barrel carb set up and had to change the whole gas pedal assembly. Any advice? |

Two ways to do trans kickdown. First is to get a Lokar cable kit- will need some fabrication but costs more $$. Second is to scrounge the junkyard for a kickdown cable setup from some Mopar trucks ( circa 1990??)- much less $$ but more fabrication. When I put a 4bbl on my 63 Valiant, I used Lokar kickdown & throttle cables (& a late A-body gas pedal). |

Theoretically, you could use something as simple as hose clamps and a lawnmower throttle cable. However, cheaper than the Lokar or Bouchilion (SP?) cable kickdowns and better designed than a lawnmower throttle cable kickdowns is this. |

Having just done this yesterday, I'm going to toss in my vote for the factory Magnum kickdown. 20$ at the junkyard, I believe the donor vehicle was a 90's 4.0 Cherokee, got the lever, cable holder that bolts more to the rear of the trans, and throttle body mount as well. We mocked up and chopped the throttle body mount, welded it to the throttle cable mount we made earlier in the week (required a bit more thinking than this) bolted everything else up just like we pulled it off, and viola! *We also used a return spring on the kickdown lever that bolts to the transmission, this may or may not be required, but we did it for peace of mind. **Also where the cable connects to the throttle body, on the previous application was a ball & socket type connection. Since the yard pulled it for us, we did not have it. We drilled the socket to accept a stud and but. This also may not apply if you can make the ball and socket work. ***This was performed in a Dart Sport, with an Aussiespeed hurricane and dual dutras. Limited places to bolt stuff. ****edit: I just looked at the eBay part a little closer, seems like it may be better than fabricating stuff, and extremely reasonable. |
