Post subject:  exhaust overhaul suggestions on my 63 Dart

I drove my car around the area and hot dang it shifts fine! Seems like I need to do some kickdown work as it did not drop to 2nd when I punched it but that will be for another day.

Putting the inside back together, rear view mirrors, door panels etc.

Because I had to cut the tail pipe to remove a piece of wood that fell into the pipe while moving it out of the way installing the engine (yeah I know!) I now have a very noisy connection under the front seat so I am looking to now get the exhaust repaired or preferably go to 2.25" to take advantage of the upgrades on the engine, .060 over, .1 cut from the block and the hotter cam so I have been reading threads here and there are tons of them going all which way on muffler and exhaust and the infamous DRONE!

First thought was going to midas a quarter mile from home but then I wonder what experience yall have had and would like to share. Also muffler/glasspack setups and other caveats you have experienced. Ill keep reading the multitude of threads but would appreciate real world applications if you would please share.

Thanks
John

Glasspacks are fun for about 30 seconds, and then they are annoying. I PM'd you my recommendation.

If you are staying with the stock manifold, then I recommend 2.25" exhaust pipe all the way back, with a Jones Quiet power muffler (or called something like that). Jones mufflers have worked well for me in terms of low noise but a little rumble. I used a Dynomax Super Turbo long ago and a Thrush turbo and they were fine too. Haven't bought/used one of those in 12-15 yrs, though.

Try to get recommendations from local Slanters or trusted hot rodders about a custom exh shop. They vary WIDELY and you can easily pay lots of $$ for junky exhaust.

Best,
Lou

Well put... and they are even more fun when they rust out on the inside, and the fiberglass gets pushed into the tube and blocks it up tight.

I have no drone and run 2.5" pipe. Both mufflers or Flow Masters. Super quiet and great mileage!
