Any answers?I have a 1967 Dodge D100.Lately it would run normal until I shut it off,then it wouldn't start,not even a kick.Go out the next day and it would start,run normal,but same thing when shut off.I put in new coil and it ran,but was cutting in and out.Made it home,shut it off and it won't start and I have no spark.Put in another new coil thinking the first one was bad off the shelf and still have no spark.9.4 volts to coil with key on.Could it be a bad ground?I replaced ballistic resistor,wires,and plugs as well. |

Does it still have the original points type distributor, or has it been converted to electronic? Roger |

It still has the original points and distributor cap which look ok by eye,although I'm not an expert at that.If the timing was off I still should have spark? |

If this is the points type distributor, first check your points gap or dwell. Then change out the condenser inside the distributor; a failing one can behave in this fashion. If you don't have a new condenser, you can disconnect/remove it as a temporary test to see if the car runs, but get a new one ASAP. Yes, you will have spark with the timing off. Test your spark by putting a screwdriver in the end of a plug wire or the coil HV wire, and setting the blade about 1/4" from metal. It should jump that gap with a strong, bluish spark. This is a basic test but may not tell you much about an erratic spark. Also repeat your test with the voltage and measure both sides of the ballast resistor with the key in RUN, and let us know. Check the cam in the distributor to see if the angles on it are still fairly sharp and see if the distributor shaft is not slopping around and that the plates in side are secure. |

Thanks a million for your replies. Bought a new condenser after work for $10.00,installed it,and it started up first crank. I then yelled YAA HOO ! Thanks again, Al Mac. |
