Post subject: | questions about clutch replacements |
hi sl6 sages- done a few clutch jobs on a variety of sl6 and small v8 mopars in the last 50 and they all were almost the same. all the clutches were from the auto parts stores and were borg and beck style 3 finger centrifugally assisted pressure plates. all worked fine. only had to use a few f bombs. think the sl6 clutches were 9 or 91/2 inch and the 318v8 clutches were 10inch. feather duster will be rolling soon and if i replace the clutch(which i did back in 91) i am considering putting in a diagrham type clutch . my thinking is that this type clutch is reputed to have a noticeably lighter pedal pressure(at least in chevrolets). wondering if i am making a mistake(modification$$/problems, quicker wearout, etc.). neversaw one of these types nor drove one in a mopar. the thread here discusses putting in one as a race clutch(mcleod and spec). give me your best advice on how to proceed. car will be used as a regular driver(no wheel stands , smoking slicks of stump pulling). dont want to be on tobacco road one night ,let up the clutch and have to coast in on a wing and a prayer. thanks tons bob f |

The stock replacement for your Feather Duster is a 9 1/4", you can optionally fit the 10" B&B clutch as well. For stock daily driving replacements Zoom/Luk/Ram work well but all are B&B style clutch covers. Spec is about twice the price and has the diaphragm cover, but has quality control issues (may not be a problem for under 2000 rpm light to light driving), with their diaphragm clutch you have to remove the overcenter spring from your clutch pedal assembly. McCleod makes a much better clutch, but you'll have to call to see if they offer anything currently for our use on the stock flywheel. Another option is looking at the clutch post in this section and see what OldRodder is running. Good luck. |
