I would like to increase the oil pressure on my 86 truck a little. (5 -8#) Can someone give me an idea how much to stretch the spring or how many washers to install under the spring? Thanks, Rick |

I dont think I would Trust streching the spring.. would it not give out when hot if stretched? WHy not just get a new one - they are cheap and the same as 440 / hemi.. Also try one washer then try 2 if not enough.. Greg |

I don't want to get under the truck more than once & I want to do it tomorrow evening. So no time to order a spring. I found a post from DI that says an 1/8" nut is about what you want. I will give that a try and see what it does. Rick |

That gives a good increase at the pump, when you pull the cap you might check the bore and piston to make sure its not pitted, stuck or the bore is somewhat smooth... |

As an FYI... Increasing relief valve spring pressure will not change hot idle oil pressure... A stiffer relief valve spring will only increase higher RPM oil pressure. If you need more low RPM pressure... it is time to change oil pumps or figure-out where the pressure is going. (worn bearings or ??) DD |

Yep, doc is absolutely right. I usually put 1-2 small washers in there to give 0.050-0.090" thickness between the cap and stock spring. I quit using the Mopar Perf spring because the pressure goes way too high. If you have at least 45 psi at higher RPM, I probably wouldn't touch it. You don't spin that thing over 5000, right? Lou |

if you want to go trick you can use one of these http://store.440source.com/Adjustable-O ... /200-1093/ I put one on the 83 D150 I did need to drill a hole through the passenger side motor mount to allow access with a allen to get to the adjustment stud. I tuned mine in to relieve at 60 psi. |

Factory gauge (Low - High) has been reading a little low so I put an aftermarket gauge on it just to make sure what it had. And at idle it had 15# maybe a bit more, and at higher RPM it only has about 38#. It is just a bit lower than I would like to see, but it is not giving me any problems. This is a 35,000 mile engine and it will not see 5000 RPM ever. Rick |
