Just Got an estimate from Muffler King here in Kirkland, Wa for $650.00 to install 2.25" from manifold back using my own muffler and 2.00" from muffler to their resonator out. Thought I had seen many folks saying they paid less. Anyone make comparison costs or have suggestions?out Thanks all. John |

Wow, I hope they at least buy you dinner first! $650 is pretty steep for a custom single exhaust pipe. The last time I had a completely custom dual exhaust system put together was about twelve years ago. I believe it cost around $400 for the labor, pipe, and mufflers. I went to a ocal independent muffler shop. If you have access to a welder or a friend who welds, you can buy pre-bent pieces of pipe and weld up your own exhaust system. That is what I intend to do on my brother's Duster. Otherwise, my only recommendation is to put in the leg work and shop around. |

I paid $250 for 2" duals all the way back from the Dutra manifolds, with my own mufflers. Now, granted, it's a crappy, poorly-designed exhaust system, but at the time I wanted the car back on the road, and it's all I could afford. Still, it's (mostly) held together for 5-6 years. A new, well-built system is high on my list of future projects. Try a smaller, mom-and-pop exhaust shop, as opposed to Midas. Most will do pretty good work. |

Got a metal cutting saw and a mig welder but getting access under the car would prove to be the most difficult. Sides I watched those car shows where the do that and well, it would most likely come out looking like a shoeshine box. Older folks will understand that! |

I plan on putting my brother's Duster up on ramps and jack stands and test fit the pipes from the front to back, on e section at a time, tack welding the pieces together, then removing the pipes from the car for the final welding. Time consuming and repetitive, but I have a sawzall, a welder, and a pile of used exhaust pipes to play with. Unless I can save up a few hundred dollars. Then I will just pay someone else to do it. ![]() |

DON'T go too cheap. Try to find someone in the area with personal, positive experience with a place that does custom work. I usually search around and find a place and take 1/2 day off and go there to give advice while they are doing it (without, hopefully, being too annoying to them). At the moment, my good place is 45 min away in Salem, VA, and he would probably charge $300 for such a job, with muffler. Lou |

Older folks will understand that! Putting it together involves finding the angles and clocking of the tubes under the car tack welding the pieces - checking for fitment and interference - Lotsa mock up.... then remove and fully weld in a comfortable position on a bench etc....then reinstall when fully welded. I've done the weld up with angles etc., and my expereience its that the welds and joints present more opportunites for rust out and have found the bent pipes tend to last better in general. Of course, if your car is not driven in rain or salt, then it'll probably be OK for quite a while. |

As said before, find a Mom and Pop place with a pipe bender. I have a buddy with his own shop who would do that system all day long in 2" or 2-1/4" for $200, and that includes a muffler. ![]() |
