Post subject: | '63 Dart rear quarter panel water drainage? |
I have the interior stripped out on my '63 Dart GT hardtop and have replaced the front and rear window gaskets ( no rust in the front and moderate rust in the rear channel) While water testing the rear window, I noticed that streams of water run off the rear of the roof rails and pour partly against the rear quarter window "whiskers", which don't do much to prevent water from entering the body cavity. I fabricated some stainless steel to extend the roof rail another quarter inch, and that redirected the majority of the water, but water can still enter via the side windows. I know there's a moisture membrane to keep the upholstery cards from getting soaked, but I don't see drainage holes to let the water out. I did find a drainage passage on the pinch weld half way between the door edge and the rear wheel well, but it's open and dry, and doesn't seem to communicate with the quarter panel interior. Any thoughts on this? I hate to just re-install the interior and pretend there's no problem..... |

I do not know if this addresses your concern, but when I restored my 70 Dart I eliminated the inner quarter panel sheet metal by taking the trunk floor extension clear to the side. I have drains built into the trunk floor. There is no place for water to collect. Or mulch, or durt, or tools. |
