getting started on this one. good solid car, I like to call it a 2020 car,, looks good from 20 feet away at 20 MPH.. but its solid and basically intact and original. the plan is to upgrade the drive train, 8.75 rear end and disk brake conversion up front, new brake lines over the winter. Maybe springs and torsion bars,,,, The fuel tank has a leak in it, so will change it out also. I have a set of Sebring seats, so those are going in.. The motor-tranny go-fun stuff will come later, like this time next year at the soonest. this car has been sitting for a long time, it has a like new set of Cooper Polyglass tires on it, the reciept in the glove bax says they were installed in 1980..When I got the car, 2009 the rubber was completely mising from the wiper blades,, I was afraid I would inadvertently hit the wiper switch and end up scratching the windshield,, so I took them off, and put the wiper arms away,, some where??? ,, I must have put them in a very safe spot, cause I can't find em... |

Anyone seen the "Soto horn button....or the hardtop only window trim thingy? I have a package of small important 'Soto things stashed some where.....at least I remember I do....I think.... |

key concept here is a 'stunning slant six car'thanks all for the kind words. but what I really want to do is get this car back on the road, its been parked way to long, I am thinking of something along the lines of Ryan C's yellow Dart and Seymore's Toad,, tore down and cleaned up a manual steering box today,, that grease in there is some sticky stuff,, Note the 120 little pins, out on thier own,, look now, won't see that again, they are going to be secured away real quick,,, https://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@ ... 535531314/ I would like to think that by Thanksgiving I could have the 8.75 ready to put in and around Christmas be doing the front disks and steering box conversion.. |

https://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@ ... 969894651/ got the bearings off the 8.75 sure grip and pinion,, used a bearing puller / impact wrench that was passed on to me from my dad's oldest brother Butch,, always like it when I can put his old tools to use,, matched em up with a HF bearing spliter,, kind of an East meets West set up,, the cones from the sure grip had not bottemed out,, checked the remaining clearance with clay,, got .010 to .012,, think I'll have .020 cut from the ends. will work on a bearing kit / seals this week,, |

the 68 has power steering, plan to change it over to a manual box. picked up a box from one of the forums,, found out that the 349 boxes are from the v8 a bodies and have needle bearing on the cross shaft, the 350 boxes are from slant vehicles and tend to have bushings,,although there I have also seen discussion that there are 350 boxes with needle bearings.. regardles this is a 349 box,, I called steer and gear,, they are good folks but wanted 249.   to rebuild one of these,did some internet searching, there is not much to it,, you do need to keep track of the needle bearings,, seals: National 7214 and Chicago Rawhide 11067 cover gasket from Detroit Muscle even the Torrington needle bearing are available,, Chrysler part number Y1812,, Torrington part number B1812 used Mobil 1 synthetic grease,, I bead blasted the case then coated it with Glisten PC.. progress on the '68 got the car on jacks and droped the gas tank,, amaizing that it would run,, photo is of the stale-rusted gas that was in the tank https://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@ ... 871801148/ Concerning the much anticipated build sheet,, stuffed under the back seat.. it is there https://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@ ... 217227306/ but broken down by time and the elements,, just like us all... also under the back seat, drivers side,, evidence of broken glass,, something happened at some point in time,, .
