Post subject:  My transmission decided to quit today .

Hi ,
Here is a back story , for awhile when I made sharp turns on the road , usually right turns , my transmission seemed to go into neutral until I straighten out , then fine, and if i go through the same turn without hitting the gas , until I straighten out it is fine . I noticed the transmission fluid was low, so I added some, then yesterday i saw one of my transmission hoses to the cooler was leaking were it connects to the hard line. I changed both hoses. I went to go get some pizza today , and on the way back , in the right lane going 60 , all of a sudden it went into neutral. I luckily pulled it off the road , and I found out I had park and everything else was pretty much neutral , no shifting or anything. I didn't see any leaks . I got it back to the house , and now need to find time to look into it.
oh yeah my transmission is a 727
Sorry for being long , but tried to give out all detail I remember .any ideas is appreciated. thanks for reading

Double check your trans fluid level AGAIN, level ground, hot trans, set parking brake, engine runnning, shifter in Park or Neutrel depending on model yearl These transmissions are VERY fussy about the fluid level being correct.

Thanks for the reply, if weather permits, i am going to change out my filter also. It is the original filter, so it is a good idea anyway. I hope that is the problem.
I love this truck so much .

Here is a useful diagnostic aid:

Image

(1) Check your fluid level and bring to proper level.
(2) Check if you have reverse.
(3) Check if you have drive in any gear (D, 2, 1)

Report back.

Thanks Reed, well I replaced filter , and filled fluid. The only good news is, instead of nothing when I put in any gear , I get a slight moaning sound in reverse and drive.
Nothing works in R D 12 . I guess I will , when i get time , take transmission out and break it down.
Why does all this crap happen when it starts to get cold hahaha (just my luck)

Late to the party, but check all the linkages, and the motor/trans mounts - from the steering column, the frame, to the transmission.

I had similar issues in a 73 dodge I bought. It was a ruined transmission mount that did it. The transmission would move enough in turns that it caused gear selection issues.

You are checking the fluid level with the engine running and the trans in neutral, right?
