The upper dash area close to the windshield looks nasty from sitting so long (from moisture)...NOT from a leaky windshield--should i go the extra mile and have the windshield removed and that area repainted too-when i get my 68 dodge dart repainted?
nobody thinks that i should...cause the windshield never leaked.
i guess my real question is:
What are my chances of my windshield leaking-after i remove it and re-install with a new gasket?

The chances of your windshield leaking after reinstallation, even if you have a new gasket and windshield, are close to 100%. Bet on it leaking.

So far, I have never had a windshield installed on any A-body (6-7 times, 64-74 cars) that did not leak. I made some headway by adding more silicone sealant after installation, but there was always a little leak even after that. Either nobody knows how to do it right these days, or the new gaskets are junk, or.....

Good luck,

Lou

Probably close to 100% if you do it yourself and have never done one of these before. Closer to 50% if you get an old school windshield guy to do it. Make sure you use butyl sealant. The black stuff that doesn't dry and crack.
