Is it possible that we have/tried to convince too many people that the slant isn't junk? that's the best way I can think to put it. Here are the items that got me thinking about it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slant-six-super ... 9e&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrysler-Dodge- ... 29&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mopar-NOS-Intak ... e3&vxp=mtr Is this the end to a slant being any form of cheap? |

Dang, I think I have some extra intakes laying around, and I could probably piece together a complete factory two barrel kick down linkage. I might do that just to take advantage of some stupidly high prices on eBay, then use the money to buy better stuff like a cable kick down linkage for under $30. ![]() |

This just means that parts are starting to get scarce and Ebay prices drive everything up. Lou |

Yes, plus many eBay sellers are greedy and/or don't have a clue what folks will actually pay for something so they list items with silly high prices. If you do your eBay search for 'completed listings' you can see what folks are actually paying. |

That's all fine and well until someone with money to burn comes along and pays the ridiculous price. |

I don't know if anyone's had the joy of hunting for a supersix 2bbl kickdown, but everyone on the face of the web treats em like they're made of gold. Never once have I seen one for less than $100, and even $185 isn't out of the question for what I've seen on the net. They aren't available here in CA really, and we don't have many oldschool car junkyards to romp through either, so you'd almost be forced to shell out the money - or get a cable, or do like i did and just use the stock 1bbl one that was on the car. Mine still works fine, with 2bbl Holley on it. |

The last time i bought a Super Six setup, I went to a junkyard and bought it complete from air cleaner to kickdown for $35. That was over ten years ago though. Now, I give up trying to stick with factory original parts and just use whatever works adn is in my budget. Kickdown? Go for the $25 cable style one on eBay. Intakes? Modify a one barrel or scrounge for a cheap two barrel (although two barrels are almost as expensive as four barrels. Just get an offy and run adapter plates). Air cleaner? Get one for a 318 and add the sticker if you must have it. Choke thermostat? CarbsOnly. Etc.... |

We have a situation over on this side of the pond, that we will probably see in several countries in the coming years. The young kids don't repair or modify their cars to the same degree anymore. The entire DIY scene has changed, much due to the increasing complexity of the cars, more and more processes are regulated by electronic 'black boxes' without parts for repair. Many scrapyards don't bother to dismantle useable parts from cars anymore, the just drain all fluids and remove batteries and other potentially contaminating parts, and dump the car in the press. Classic cars may be put aside for parts picking for a short time, then they are also fed to the press. In Norway we have a special situation, in that a deposit is included in the price on a new car. The deposit is refunded when the car is delivered for wrecking. The same amount is actually also refunded for all older cars, also for those bought before the deposit was introduced, which means that many 'pickable' classics go in the press because of the cash return. It is all part of the politicians' wishes to 'reduce the number of older, unsafe and polluting cars on the roads'. I also have the feeling that the same reasons - especially those regarding pollution - will be given for introducing regulations and restrictions on picking parts from wrecksites in the near future, not only here, but in the entire 'western world'. It may not come tomorrow, a delay is also to be expected because of the economic situation in many countries, but my guess is that it will happen much sooner than we think. It will unfortunately lead to more difficulties and even higher prices, for those of us who actually work on our own classic cars. This forum is vital for presenting ideas and alternative solutions to keep the costs down. Olaf |

If you have followed the Mopar market for any length of time, you will see that this is nothing new. Greedy Mo Fo's taking advantage of unknowingly people and trying to make big bucks with their ridiculously overpriced parts. Either this guys had way to much cool-aid, or maybe it's starting to trickle over to the slant now, who knows? I'd tell him to go piss up a rope! |

I don't use ebay at all anymore. The prices on there are so outrageous it's not even worth browsing anymore. Idiots leave their 500% marked up parts on there for months and eventually the followers start upping the prices on theirs as well. Eventually everything doubles in price for no good reason. |
