I have 62 and 66 valiants. The 62 has had a 65 radiator in it for a couple of years now but you are right it is tight, about 1 inch between it and stock 4 blade fan. It is a 225 and auto with new mounts. Have not made any high speed stops to test engine movement out.
Measured my old 62 radiator agains my 66 ,bottom and top tanks are the same but the 62 has a thinner core 1.25 , 66 is over 2 inches bolt up the same.

On my 62 the original rad was about 3/8" from the original fan. I did an unplanned detour into the ditch and ruined the rad, now a later a body rad is in there and it also is close but it works.

thanks for the replies. I did find a local racer with a 61 valiant with a rad. don't know if usable but at least I can see what IT IS! my lancer has is 170 and I fiure it need s a rad at least 1/2 to 3/4 in thinner than that 654 rad I tried!!!!

thanks again for the input. these old toads are few and far between around here!

Do not know if this will help but the # for the thin core rad. In the 62 are 886 the other two for the two inch core are 954 and 956. All with trans. Cooler.
Also on another web site you posted about gas tank interchange between 62 and 63/66 tanks. My 66 tank is larger being 16 wide compared to 12 in. For the 62 but the 66 has a 6 in. Relief for the wheel well allowing it to sit further rearward than the 62 tank which has a 2 in. Relief.
Hope this makes sense!

good mopar guy gave me a correct rad out of a 61 val parts car. took it to rad shop, tanked it, BAD! like he says, those old rad if they ever have antifreeze in them and then left dry, they dry rot.
BUT atleast if can see how the brackets are and the thickness frst hand.
I've been told a 63 gas tank will fit?? is that what your saying???
no one ever said toad collecting was easy!!??????

I have the 63 fuel tank in my 62. I fabricated a second tank strap because the 63 tank extends further back (and was designed for 2 straps). You will need the 63 sender to go with it, the 62 unit will not work.

actually the 63-6 tanks used only one strap, but I see where the 62 car might need a second strap. NOW, if that radiator I scored out of a 61 valiant would have been good!!!!! LOL!
there is a "ford" obsolete parts guy here locally, he is dealer for U S Radiator. looks like they reproduce original everything. the toad rad would be $400! wow!!!
