i love my nice original hub caps for my 68 dart-HOWEVER-the tires are so narrow -and totally look ridiculous! id simply like to get some wider tires-and use these wheel covers-and cruise around for a summer-before i go for the 14" ralley wheels. BASICALLY-WHAT ARE MY TIRE OPTIONS WITH THESE VINTGAGE 13" RIMS? |

Options; not a lot if any. Look here for mass-market tire availability, and here for antique reproduction product. |

The OEM 13" rim is only 4½" wide, which limits the maximum size of tire to P185/80R13. This tire size is now obsolete with most tire manufacturers except for Maxxis. They still offer this size at a reasonable price and shipping is included. Maxxis P185/80R13 90S RWW MA-1 |

I bought a set of MAXXIS (Cheng Shin) tires for a '64 Valiant. The existing P185/80R13 tires were no longer in production, and the only thing I found online in this size at places like Tire Rack were trailer-specific tires. Be careful when buying online that the tire is not a trailer tire. The MAXXIS tires have a nice whitewall, and though I wish that they were in the $60 range instead of $100 (!) each, they seem to be the best option at this point if you are staying with the OEM 13" rims. |

I run 205/60/13 on the stock rims. Fit and look fine. |

The Maxxis page above specifies 5.0" as the rim width for the P185/80R13 tire. The Yokohama Rim/Wheel Width page specifies the following approved rim widths for their tires:
I believe that the problems with using too narrow a rim are:

I used to sell tires for Montgomery Ward back in the late 70's and I bought some 13 inch tires for my 510 datsun that had cantilever sidewall that would look great. I haven't looked to see if they still exist any more but I doubt it. |
