V8 and slant six K Frames anyone want to take a shot at this one, and how does one know the difference? https://www.flickr.com/photos/13718356@ ... 336462122/ thanks |

You are correct in the breakdown on the K-members...for the mid to late A-body: 1963-1966 A-body /6 and LA V-8 1967-1972 A-body (uses 'sandwich' motor mounts) 1967 only had a single mounting point at top for the idler arm, and you have to use the 1967 specific arm, the 1968-1972 K, uses the "through" bolt version you have (you could also remedy the 1967 K with a bit of welding skill and metal to get the more common 1968+ idler to fit. /6 and LA V-8 1973-1976 A-body with spool/cradle mounts /6 and LA V-8 There also was a MP Big Block V-8 K available for the late A-bodies. Just off hand yours looks like a 1968-1972, but I can't tell from the perches (angle of the photos?) if it's a V-8 or /6. |

I'm not an expert on the V-8 cars either, but I'm "leaning" towards that being a 68-72 slant K-frame. I see the engine mount brackets are very non-symmetrical, with the right side almost at the frame rail mounting points. |

The '73 and up K frames had the through-the-frame sway bars, which this one looks like it has. However, it also looks like it has the sandwich type mounts, so that would require a '72 and before nod. The 68-72 K members I have seen are solid on the bottom. It is a bit confusing as a result. I wonder if there was a late 72 K frame that had the later sway bar set up, but the earlier sandwich type mounts. And I agree with the fact that the driver's side mount is higher than the pass side. That would require a slant six vote. Sam |
