Post subject:  An intro from me and my '68 VE

Hi everyone,

I'm Tom, an enthusiast from Australia who found my way on here after looking around for a good community and knowledge base to get attached to so I can carry on with the restoration of my 1968 Chrysler Valiant VE.

I picked it up about 5 years ago now needing a fair bit to get it back on the road reliably, and it's been the best thing that ever happened to me. I knew it was a resto project from the start, and I've slowly been putting away parts for it (panels, wiring harness, just about every damned thing I can get my hands on really).

A good bulk of the mechanical side of things were in reasonable nick - I pulled off the head and refurbished/replaced everything in the immediate area, rebuilt the Carter 2bbl on it, rebuilt the transmission and took off the sorry old exhaust for a set of pacemaker headers among a lot of other things (coil, radiator, distributor, intake manifold, mounts, just about everything but the bottom end of the block...which is on the way)

The most recent work was a few months in the garage touching up the paint all over where it had been thinned out over the years - all the seams and raised areas, that kind of thing. Went in with a practice panel, but it was a real lesson in patience (and wet sanding...)

At the time I also replaced the boot lid and front passenger side door, as they were the only two panels with a bit of filler in them.

Up next is an electrolytic alkaline dip for the whole car, during which I'll get the whole body back to the way it was when it rolled off the car lot the day it was sold. A repaint, a reupholster of the interior, full rubber kit, as close to nuts-and-bolts as I can get.

Most of the work was done right here in my garage, and every minute's been fun as hell. Plan on keeping it for the rest of my life if possible.

The only time it's ever had real issues, the fuel sender wore out and I ran out of fuel as I was thinking how good it was on the juice this trip since the needle had barely moved...easy fix.

I'll quit with the wall of text now, but I'd be more than happy to field any questions or anything like that - I'll have plenty of my own before I get all the shake and rattle out of the roll in this thing.

Thanks for your time, and I'll link up some pics of the car, new boot lid and door, etc.

-Tom
