Anybody ever try putting turbo in A100 pickup? I have the base model A100 with no thrills and would love to make it the coolest one around. I'm thinking F.I., Turbo, Disk Brakes, 15 in tires and wheels! I know the space is tight, but I think it might work. My biggest concern is the amount of heat that may come off the turbo. I'm considering moving the radiator up front behind the grill. I have a friend who will make the radiator and can set me up with the fans. That should make a lot of room, but if a lot of heat comes through the motor cover, it will be like "the box" in Cool Hand Luke!! Also considering other locations for turbo, back of cab is real close to back of engine. Trying to plan everything out before I start and would love any suggestions! Let's have some fun with this one!!!
Thank You Slant Six Forum!!!!

Sounds like a fun project! You might try a remote turbo setup, like Brian Mimken has on his Duster. This seems to work very well and you could put the turbo out of the engine bay (under the body partway back to the axle, or near/behind the rear axle, or maybe behind a headlight, etc...). You need an extra oil pump to get the oil back to the engine, but otherwise it is similar to a normal turbo install, and exh routing should be even easier. EFI will simplify things a lot regarding fuel mixture and tuning.

Happy Slanted designing and building!

Lou

Tunnel from front slanted floor plate right up to old radiator front plate. move radiator all the way forward with elec. fans and put turbo in front of motor cross ways. fresh air coming from front should sweep all air out bottom rear of engine compartment. What do you guys think?

Sounds pretty good, although I do not have a great memory for how much space is up front in an A100 bay. Note that the turbo needs to be substantially uphill of the full oil level in the engine oilpan for drainback. Otherwise, you need a supplemental oil pump for the turbo.

Remember, A100 is cab over pickup, engine bay is completely in cab between seats. That's why heat could be a big problem... Also, what would be the perfect donor car for all the turbo and FI parts I'm going to need? I might be able to find the whole car to put it all together. Has anyone tried both the t03 and t04 turbo referenced in Wayne's article? Which was better?

Thanks Lou for ideas and help!
