Post subject:  Which carb can handle more rebuilding abuse?1920-1945-BBD

I have been vocal on how bad big shop remanufactured carbs can be (after buying a 1920 w/o a baffle, and that never gave me a good idle), but to be fair, I also bought a 1945 for my Aunt's Aspen from the same shop and so far had been great. So: can you chime on which is the one that is more prone to survive the abuse from a big reman shops? Or I just was lucky with the 1945?

Hope you had a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!

PD: I remember a post including Dan's comment that there was no "better" carb from the group: each of them have some problem, and some advantages. Just was looking for a poll on the most "rugged"

PD: And I know a recomendation is a hard thing to give... I'll take it for what is worth, no liabilities...

I think you just got lucky. The 1920 is simpler and a bit easier to work with, but the 1945 is a fine carb. I really like the BBD but the throttle shaft bor wears out after a few decades and causes big vacuum leaks. Rebushing can be easily done to cure the throttle shaft leaks.

I think most important is matching the carb to the application. you need a carb that has all the necessary fittings for the emissions equipment you are running.
