Post subject:  Proper Engine lift bolt holes and Hardware

Greetings.
Can anyone post a pic or accurately describe proper lift technique for engine/trans lift from a Valiant?

Does manifold combo need be removed? does this help/hinder due to balance concerns?

Thanks for your expertise.

Right beside the valve cover...in the middle of the head....are two threaded 3/8 bolt holes. Bolt a short length of chain between them .

What he said ^^, just did this a couple weekends ago. Very easy and pulled it with a tractor. Not with the trans attached but with a leveler it might help.

You can keep the manifolds on. 2" long 3/8" bolts coarse threaded with flat washers to spread the load on the links; grade 5 or grade 8, not ungraded. Have extra links in the chain length between the 2 bolts so you can adjust the point at which the hook attaches for balance; it also lowers the chain tension and side force on the bolts to have the extra links.

A couple of pix here: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/sho ... p?t=300385

Trannie removed makes it easier IMO but you can do it with it attached; you can set the hook along the chain for the best angle.

Just did this a month or so ago. Like the other guys have said. 2 bolts sitting on top. Front one lifts and balances engine only. Back one balances engine and transmission together. Both work for almost perfect balancing."
