It can be done with the valve body in place, but it is a whole lt easier with it out, especially if the trans is still in the vehicle.

the shift shaft is leaking where it enters case.....where do I get a new seal???? how do I replace it???? |

You can pry the old one out with a pick or other small pointy object. New shifter shaft seals are available wherever trans parts are sold. I.E. http://www.makcotransmissionparts.com Throttle lever seal Shift linkage seal |
