Post subject:  Trans choice and rear ratio ??

I am fighting $$ the battle $$ of doing the 5speed swap ..
So looking at my options .. The car 63 valiant wagon . Car is automatic now . I plan to cruise / street drive 75% and 25% at drags .. Motor plans are supercharged 6 lbs boost . Rear tires are 26.5--27 tall
with transmission Tf904 what would you run for a rear gear ?
Street drive at 60mph and best ratio for 1/4 mile run.
Slant six 727 strength vs upgraded 904 ?

501 overdrive trans. if adapted uses low starter ? Don't think my headers would work ?
My goal and 1st choice is still T5 and I know there is tons of ways to do both just want to see your opinions

thank you all

Post subject:  Some sparse thoughts...

If you look at the rpm charts, a set of 2.94's in the light wagon with an automatic would be great for cruising and keep the rpms down at highway speed if you have a muffler that drones ...if you built it with a quiet system then you may not notice the 2600 rpm sound in 3rd with 3.23...

The turbo will add grunt and you may not notice the higher rpm...of course the fun factor just may cause you not to notice anything...

If you have an OD available then the fun really begins...the A-500 would allow cruising with or without the turbo with 3.91 or 4.11, but you may bark the tires in the lower gears if you are on the pedal...similar options available with the manual overdrive depending on the 1st gear ratio and the OD ratio....things are well balanced for mileage and fun if you can pull in a 10:1 combined first gear ratio (1st gear ratio x rear ratio and a nice final ratio in the 2.8-3:1 range OD ratio x final ratio for best overall cruising mileage)

Note that the slant 727 units are truck/van units (unless you somehow have a taxicab A-body unit), and may need some crossmember finagling....that being said the 727 is stronger than the 904 overall but it comes with the price that it will eat some of your overall power and shift speeds (this will show up mostly in your drag race ET and dyno, only if you have another person with the same setup to compare it to...)

Good luck.
