Post subject: | 904 throttle kickdown lever thingy |
Hello, I actually have a question that doesn't seem to have been asked before, so here it is... Background info: My 1965 Valiant 225/904 auto has all of the original mechanical kickdown linkage. throttle apparently suddenly would not move more than 1/4 of the way down. Also, I seem to lose 3rd and I get a late 1-2 shift after driving for a bit. Removing the kickdown linkage frees it up. I checked all of the linkage and the hangup seems to be at what the FSM refers to as the "throttle lever," which is the final piece of the kickdown stuff outside of the transmission. It rotates forward and backward parallel with the ground. I don't know how much this lever is supposed to rotate, but it seems to be only rotating about half the distance needed to allow full carb linkage rotation. When disconnected from linkage, I can rotate it forward until it hits the transmission case and backward until it is 90 degrees perpendicular to the driveline. My questions are: How far is this thing supposed to rotate? It seems like it should rotate farther back. I see there's a kickdown band in the FSM that can be adjusted externally with a screw/locknut, though I wouldn't think this would cause such a drastic issue. Could that be the issue? Could something be interfering internally? If so, can I access this assembly and take it apart just by taking the pan off? |

It sounds like the throttle pressure (TP) shaft & lever has "jumped-over" it's travel limit retaining bolt or the TP valve is sticking / stuck. Drop the trans pan and inspect the valve body and the TP valve itself, for correct operation. DD |
