Hi all. Does anyone know if the low and kickdown servo springs from an early 70s 727 out of a 3/4 ton w/ 273 will work or benifit a 86 904 LU out of a 1/2 ton w/ 225?
Thankyou. Hank

In general, any spring found in a band's servo assembly is there to soften the "hit" when the band applies.

I would guess that the servo assembly parts would not interchange between a 727 & 904 because the over-all sizes are different.

And with most Transmission "re-programming" work, there is a delicate balance between spring pressure and the hydraulic pressure acting on the spring so you have to be careful with any change(s).

So what are you trying to accomplish? Is there a poor shift quality problem you are trying to fix? (like your run-away 2-3 shift situation)

Me, I tend to use earlier servo assemblies, with no spring / hydraulic "cushioning" because I like to feel a hard shift out of an automatic transmission.

My 2-3 shift problem was salved with the valve body from another 904 with same setup as i pute together ( 4 clutch front and solid KD band with hi ratio) The VB I was haveing a problem with was out of the case i used ( 3 clutch front with low ratio gears.) For fun I traced out the fluid path in boath VBs and found that low ratio 3 clutch VBs have a larger check ball hole for front clutch and front servo reliece. That is if I followed the flow path corectly. Also could be warn out, but I checked the 2 low ratio VBs I had out and holes where the same. Also noticed that the lube hole or drain pointed up into the case at the accumulator area was smaller. 3/16 on low ratio VB and was about 7/16 on hi ratio. ( That could have been the problem) Im just a beginner with automatics and I may never really know.
I like to feel hard shifts as well and was thinking as i keep reading poasts that my low reverse band adj. is 7 turns back from 41 in lbs. which means I have mabey the weekest springs in 904 production. grumble grumble Ha Ha. And I dont know alot but it doesnt make sence to me ot build a VB with Superior TF corection kit and better guts but not do anything with the servos or accumulater or levers. What year do you think would be a good V8 904 for these parts? or a good after market supplier?
Thankyou Mr. Dr Dodge

With the v8 guts thing coming up again, there are quite a few posts on here about members swapping in the v8 guts. Search and there will be plenty. I know one has building a 904 in the kitchen lol.

Also, if given a couple weeks I'll have a nice big detailed write up coming about the v8/ slant case thing. Complete with pics and details.
