Thanks Olaf! Searched but had trouble identifing socket size? From reading my car being a 1964 it has the small ball joint in the UCA, which means it takes a small ball joint socket to back it out? |

Mopar used two Mopar upper ball joint specific sockets over the years. The larger size was for trucks, vans, and larger cars, the smaller size was for smaller cars. These are not cheap. The last one I bought was $25 for the single socket. Ask around local old-time shops or car enthusiasts. You may find someone with these odd large square sockets with rounded corners. |

Get a 1 3/4 3/4 drive socket and grind out 4 points of the 12 and it will fit the ball joint.[/img] |

FYI:   The big one is 2 1/8, the small one is 1 7/8. I am not sure rounding the corners off of a 12 point socket will get you where you need to go. |

Sandy is on the right track with the pipe wrench. It works fine for removal. However, I would like him to share how he measure the torque on the ball joint with the pipe wrench when he installs the new ones. |

The torque spec on the large/late A-body ball joint is 175+ ft/lbs "minimum"...a pipe wrench and a 6 ft pipe of pie on the handle and some good leverage should meet the minimum torque spec...
