saw a post with this reply Quote: I'll go back to my regularly scheduled 210 build...
any advantage to building/over boring a 198?has anyone done that with great success? I know Charlie S runs 170's well and probably exploits the higher RPM potential, thanks |

I have built a couple of 210s over the years. (170 block, 198 crank 3.5 bore x 3.640 stroke) It is a pretty "square" bore to stroke combo. The best one I did had a roller cam and that engine really liked to RPM. (7500 was my redline) Other then the high RPM & small engine "package size"... no other big advantages. If I ever get around to sticking a SL6 into a small, 2 seat sports car... it will likely be a 210 version. DD |

Temporary hijack... What pistons would do best in a 170 block 198 crank build for fuel economy? and why? Thanks And we now return to the original thread... |

The set I got from Josh were TC2347 0.040" over (1.0mm Overbore) They measure 3.445". The call out was for a 2.5L, 153 C.I. Dodge application. Pickup IIRC. These pistons wouldn't like life up at 7500 rpm. Go for a forged piston to play in the ether like that. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this build at this point. Wes has Dibs on the crank, So I'd likely sell the rods and pistons along with it. I still think about it from time to time. I've got a Trans-axle four speed to build a mid engine with the low deck block. Still thinking hard about that. Slap one of my Eaton M-90's on that, then join the wonderful world of electronic fuel injection. CJ |

Hey Doc, what do you think about a 210 LG for the street? I'm looking to spice up my '64 Dart 170, and I'm intrigued at the idea of a bigger cube short stroke slant. So what would be the perfect 210 for a daily driver backed by a 4spd od and 3.55 gears? |

Build a Low Block 198 if you can find a decent 198 crank for a good price. You can use 2.2 pistons which are pretty common (3.445 standard bore size) so you will need to bore the block .045 O/S The biggest challenge is clearing the bottom of the pistons with the 198 crank. I had to grind about 3/8th of an inch off the first and last counter weights, then do a "challenging" re balance job. For a street combo, the LG engine will want more rearend gear... 3.91, 4.10, 4.30 range with the OD 833. DD |

What would the compression be with the aforementioned 198 LG and 2.2 pistons? |

With a 54 cc head, a .038 head gasket and a mild cam the static CR would be 8.86 with a 7.83 DCR Use a .020 shim head gasket and you should get 9.2 static and a 8.1 DCR. DD |

Nice! So would that setup work well with the Offy dual 1bbl manifold and Dutra Duals? I'm not looking for a race car, just something unique and dependable. |
