Ive been advised Not to change ....and that it Should be replaced....?? This car DOES runs great now-last 1200 miles / after sitting for 7 years tho. Im seeking mopar enthusiasts input feedback Thank you for your interest Happy Motoring |

Drop the pan, change the filter, check the bands, and put in new fluid. I am going to guess the ones telling you not to change it believe that the trans will spring leaks? |

I second that. I might not bother adjusting the bands if it shifts well, but would replace the fluid and filter. There was a thread on here somewhere recently about which is the best Dexron fluid variant to use. When I install or service that trans (904), I just buy the (Advance) parts store brand Dexron III/IV equivalent and have had no problems. Lou |

That thing about how you shouldn't change the fluid is a myth. Change it -- all of it, drain the torque converter, too. While you're in there, adjust the bands properly. Dexron-VI with a reputable major name on it (Pennzoil, Valvoline, etc) is what you should use. It is the latest version of Dexron, and is far superior to any previous Dexron fluid and to Chrysler's ATF+4. Spend a slight bit of extra time and money to save yourself aggravation; get a 4295 875AC pan gasket from the dealer. |

My local Advance Auto did not have the Dexron iii-iv when I went shopping, claiming Dexron vi is the replacement product for it. Maybe they just did not want to stock two different types. Sam |

That's correct. Dex-III is an obsolete product now produced and marketed only as cheap off-brand garbage or leftover stock. |
