I have two 7.25 rear ends one has 3.23's and the other 2.91 gears for my 1964 Dart. Are the axles the same for both rear ends? Can I take the axles out of one rear put new bearings on them and install them in the other no matter the gear ratio? |

The axle shaft assembly (including axle bearing) for the 7 1/4 came in 3 different types. 1960 thry 62 (and some 63s) had the small bolt pattern (SBP) & the smallest axle bearing. 64 thru 72 (and many 73 - 76 SL6 only A-Body) also had the SBP axle with a larger axle bearing. 73 - 76 went to the large bolt pattern and even a larger axle bearing. the LBP & 5 axle retaining plate nuts are the way to ID these units. Based on the fact the a 7 1/4 is weak and many get swapped over the years so check axle bearing size before buying parts. DD |
