Post subject:  torsion bars

I pulled my torsion bars yesterday while swapping out the K-frame.

Why so much grease in the boots? The frame end socket that the boot covers was completely packed full of grease. Does it really need that much grease or can I just slather that end generously when reinstalling?

Just there to displace any water/condensation and ward off rust. I don't think I packed mine full but I did put a healthy dollop in them.

I think the grease there because the torsion bar continuously slides back & forth in the cross-member as it twists. If the torsion bar boots are completely full of grease, it's probably because the factory put it there on purpose.

Post subject:  T-bars

They sure came out easily, no special tools, just pulled them out by hand. Of course, I have a CA car that lived it's whole life in CA. It was born in LA and lived as far north as Sacramento; only to settle down in the SF bay area.

Somebody was a bit tough on it at one time, the cross member where the passenger side T-bar goes has a deep dent in it, like about 1/2" deep and the floor pan on that side was also dented/bulged up pretty badly. I didn't notice that until I took the front seat out one day to measure for Sebring fitment. Looks like they hit a big rock or something and bottomed out. Must have been trying to stage a reenactment of "Duel" using a Dart instead of a Valiant.
