Just bought a 76 225 that has work done Bored .030 and a comp cam Holley 390 carb and headers. But it's not starting turns over super slow. Need help asap [/img]

Did they use a rope seal and not install properly? You should be able to turn the crank, without spark plugs, with 10-20 lb ft of torque. The crank seal drag should not be higher than 20 lb ft (or lower than 10). Some people install them without checking and it makes the engine hard (or impossible) to turn over.

No rope seal nothing I don't think installed by backyard mechanic. And while putting the torque converter bolts on it was a lil though in a spot but still moved and I'm using the heavy duty starter because of it being a D150 and the heavy 727

Timing too far advanced? Loose battery cable connection at battery, block, or starter motor? Battery needs a recharge/replacement?

How fast does the motor turn over with the spark plugs removed?

Doing it with the plugs out won't mess up the compression and don't know bought the engine from Sumbdy who said everything was in perfect sync from the fuel to idle

Removing the spark plugs while you crank the engine will make it so the engine has NO compression. Cranking the engine over with no compression and no spark will let you determine if there is a problem with something binding insie the engine. Removing the spark plugs will eliminate improper timing too high of compression as possible causes for a slow cranking engine.

If the engine spins fine with the plugs out then you know there is nothing binding in the motor and can focus on other things. If the motor still spins slow with th eplugs out then you know you have a problem with the starter motor circuit and/or something binding internally in the engine.

Forgot to mention When I go to crank it it turns over slow runs for a micro second and stops. Sometimes I hear the starter clicking and now and then just the relay clicking when I try to crank it

Sounds like your battery is low or there's a short in the system, power not getting to your starter...

I would pull the plugs and roll it over by hand (breaker bar and socket if it has the crank bolt installed...little by little if by hand on the belt. The reason being: If the engine is tight or is only tight in one "spot", you will be able to check it this way.... if something is really wrong (rod bearing caps on wrong, clearances not checked and the bearings are literally 0 clearance on the crank journals, seized rod....)...if something is really wrong and you get the engine to light, you can be out the engine in a matter of seconds....

If the engine is "tight" with the plugs out and oil in the bores, it should not take too much effort to roll the crank over by hand with a socket and bar....

Time to put a charger on your battery overnight.

also be sure there is a good ground from the block back to the battery negative terminal.

I'm going to tighten the comnecions more but turned over much faster with no pulgs in

Starter clicking and relay clicking = dead battery. Charge your battery and try again.
