Post subject:  170 Engine build

I just bought a 63 Valiant with a built 170. Specs on the engine are Block bored .30 over, head milled down to .002,hardened valve seats, stroked to 4.125,molly rings, forged pistons,250 degree Comp cam,new sprins, lifters, rods,Clifford 4 barrel intake,390 Holley carb,Clifford split manifold headers.Any thoughts on the build?Car is dark blue with ghost flames, its an older build.Anybody know who built it? It was bought at Carlisle about 5yrs ago and brought to Ohio.will try to load some pictures later

Sounds like you got told a tall tale.

4.125" crank is a 225 crank, 98% certian it wont fit in a 170 block if others say a 198(3.625"?) crank requires some clearancing. Comp don't make a 250* cam that I know of, unless it's custom. 256 & 264 is all I know of. Head milled down to .002? You mean .002 milled off? Cuz that's so minimal it's not even worth anything.

It may be a really nice car, but unless you tear it down you don't know what you have.

There's a Comp 252 if I'm not mistaken, but dartsport76 is right about that "stroked to 4.125" thing. He's also right that you don't know whatchya got unless you see it for yourself—part for part.

I can only go by the literature that the guy I bought it from received from the guy he bought it from gave him..... it runs really strong.I'm not tearing it down to find out. That's kinda why I posted it on here.I'm no slant expert..... I did build one several years ago..when this board had a group deal with Erson camshaft,I still have a cam in the closet! Thanks for the replies! :)
