Then there's the smokem-out trick done by taking a windshield washer tank and running the washer hose in to the carb. Fill the tank with automatic transmission fluid. Drop it down a gear, turn on the pump and floor it.

Generally it is avoided. Are you trying to get flames to shoot out of your tailpipe? If so, what you are after is called a "flamethrower" or "afterburner" and consists of a spark plug screwed into the end of your tailpipe and either and extremely over-rich fuel mixute or some kind of gasoline mister device that sprays raw gas at the spark plug in the back of your tailpipe. |

.......naturally it can,,,,, Start to decend a steep hill in 2nd gear......turn off the key (dont lock the column unless you want a Darwin Award).....at the bottom of the hill turn the ignition back on and watch your muffler blast a hole in the bottom of your car. |

When I was a young lad, we did the coast with the key off, turn it back on for instant fireworks as Sandy in BC described...in our straight six Ford pickup with three speed manual.. My last one, as many of you know, was more recent when my cam/oil pump/dizzy gears became one, I had huge detonation in the pipes...not by design. brian |

My '73 Mazda had this second skinny tailpipe for the backfires. Every tunnel I ever drove thru as a teen was rocked by explosion. And wherever I arrived, I'd rev up the engine, shut off the ignition, leave the vehicle, and about the time I got across the street and up the driveway... KABOOM !!! |

The small second exhaust wasn't for exhaust...........KABOOM !!! To keep the thermal reactor from getting too hot, the thermal reactor had a cooling shell surrounding it. Then the air pump output would just be sent to the cooling shell. The small pipe was for the cooling shell. |
