Team Green had a good showing of 7 cars at the first race of the 2014 season at MoKan Raceway.
4 of the 7 racers were Rookies and the other 3 were Rookies last year!!
Way to go on recruiting Team Green!
Last year's Rookie Runner Up
Rusty Heisten is our points leader after the MoKan race. Rusty was, once again, driving the Team Green '61 Lancer owned by
Mark Goodman. Rusty's best pass in eliminations was an 11.04 @ 118 MPH. Mark says that they think they've found what they need to get the Lancer back into the 10's. (Rusty ran a 10.99 at Clay City last year)
Welcome back
Bill Barksdale who is our current leader as Rookie of the Year. This is Bill's second appearance at MoKan and was runner up this year. Bill drives a '69 Dart in the high 20's... So, the final was Rusty's 11.06 @ 108 catching Bill's 21.05 @ 57...
Emily Booker and
Austin Goodman were once again racing with us at MoKan in their "More Door" '71 and '64 Valiants running in the 18 and 19 second zones. Emily beat Austin in round one this year.
And now to introduce our three new Rookies for Slant 6 Racing:
Terry Fuller hails from Diamond, MO driving a '78 D100 with a
4 speed and ran a 17.3055 on his 17.30 Dial In for his Bye Run in Round 1.
Tom Rygmyr drove his '87 D100, also with a 4 speed, from Ft. Scott, KS and ran 18.61 @ 71 MPH in round 1.
Everett Kelley was our "Forced Induction" AND "Long Distance" representative and took home $200, courtesy of 66 Drive In Theater. Everett drove his turbo powered '66 Dart GT convertible from Crane, MO and clicked off a 17.07 @ 83 MPH, so his Droptop Dodge was starting to build some steam at the top end.
So, the first race of 2014 is complete with lots of new faces being recruited in the Mid West. And they like to bang their own gears out there too, with 4 of the 7 racers driving 4 speeds (Rusty cheats a little with that Lenco 5 speed, but I counted it anyway

)
Mopars At The Strip (MATS) in Las Vegas, NV is this weekend, but there isn't a committed Roll Call as of this writing. We'll see if
Scott Jones shows up to defend his title of MATS Champion, having won this race the last two years. The "Dynamic Dutra Duo" typically tows down from Sunnyvale, CA for this race as well. The only "committed" racer thus far is Limedust70 in his '71 Demon.
Romeo Furio is waiting to see who all shows before he decides whether to race or sell parts. Hopefully Limedust70 will have someone to line up against!
Here's the current Leader Board:

I'm not yet sure how to color code these folks...
Red for Killer Bees or
Blue for East Coasters... I assume they all live West of the Mississippi, but the East Coasters adopted this orphaned race... Any votes... Anyone care...?
