I don't know the specs on the cam but it's bigger than a stock one. Will the cam size effect the feeler gauge I need.

Yes.

Do you have any info as to the manufacturer?

WJAJR recently spent a long time trying to figure out what the lash should be on his unknown brand and profile larger-than-stock cam. Search for his threads on it.

Otherwise, let then engine run until it is fully warmed up then spend some time adjusting each lifter. Loosen the adjuster until it starts to clack, then slowly and carefully tighten it to increasingly smaller clearances (using feeler gauges) until the clacking stops. Note the thickness of the feeler gauge when the clacking stops on each valve.

But...if the clacking stops and a miss develops or the cam 'kacks' like a drag car, it's too tight.

There is a wide variety in cam lobes in the 264-268 range...Comp would say to use a .012, others are in the .014-.018 range...

True. Listen to DI on this one. He knows much more than I do about it.

So I should try something like a .016

We can't recommend a lash setting without knowing the cam specs. For example, the factory lash for a slant cam is 0.010 intake and 0.020 exhaust, but after market cams can be virtually anything else. I had a cam in my slant and the valve lash was 0.012 intake and exhaust.

Do you happen to have a cam card that has the specs?

Without knowing anything, I would take the above advice and carefully set the lash as described. As DI said, you'll hear it if you go too tight; practice and go over them until she purrs or as best you can get.

SlantSixDan's detailed valve adjustment procedure is in this thread: http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic ... ght=#72139

I would recommend reading it first no matter what you decide to do.
