how much stuff is interchangeable into a 62 904 case from a post-64 V8 904 trans? i have a well built 904 for a small block that i would like to use as much stuff from in my 62 case, what wont work, the valve body i guess, but the gears and clutches, etc?

How far "post '64" are we talking about? Almost everything swaps in from a '65. Less stuff swaps in from a '66 or newer.

If I remember correctly, the only parts that swap, after 1967, is the front section. Input, pump, clutch assemblys. Everything from the planetarys back will not swap. If you swap the front section, you will need the later torque converter. The later converter will not fit the early engine, unless you get a custom converter.

On a slightly different note, I have a '64 cable-shift 904. What parts would need to be swapped in order to increase the number of clutch discs from stock? Can these parts be taken from a '67 and down V8 904 to avoid changing the torque converter?
