"Wet weather stalling and idle problems can be fixed by using a high quality distributor cap and rotor (e.g. Blue Streak), distributor cap gasket (Standard PN AL-483G), silicone covered lifetime-warranty wires, and by putting weatherstrip foam over the ignition and voltage regular modules." this is from allpar...i emailed summit racing they don't show any of these numbers anymore...does anyone have updated part numbers or brands that will fit? |

The length of the warranty on a spark plug wire has nothing to do with how good it is. Spark plug wires are a limited-lifespan item; a lifetime warranty is a gimmick to sell product, not an indication of how good the wires are. Many of the best spark plug wires do not have anything like a lifetime warranty. Likewise, whether the wires are silicone-insulated or hypalon-insulated does not predict how well or poorly they'll do in the rain. Also, there is nothing to be gained in putting weatherstrip foam over modules in good condition (and if they're in bad condition, replace them). Standard's best distributor cap used to be CH-410X, but they reshuffled their product line to de-emphasise the "Blue Streak" name and it's now a CH-410 -- it's blue with copper/brass inserts. The best rotor used to be NAPA's Echlin MO-3000. NAPAonline shows it as a current number, though availability has been spotty in the recent past with some buyers receiving the short-tip rotor in the MO-3000 box. The long-tip rotor is also sold as ACCEL 130319. Plug wires: The best are Magnecor or Aurora. Whoever you talked to at Summit doesn't seem to have let his fingers do much walking; see http://www.summitracing.com/oh/parts/sm ... /overview/ . The cap gasket isn't a necessary item on a road vehicle; it's a marine engine part. On a car it's a "belt and suspenders" thing if you drive in very wet conditions and your engine is missing its distributor splash shield. After all that: What kind of vehicle are you driving, with what kind of ignition system, and when does it make problems? |

I am driving a 66 valiant 200 with a 225 sl6. The ignition is upgraded to a 76 distributor and ignition module, it does still have the ballast resistor. The problem is it refuses to even attempt to start in damp weather, on a dry day it fires right up, no issues. My plan was to replace the cap, rotor and use the cap gasket as well as dialectric grease on the module connection and plugs and cover the regulator, per the allpar suggestion. I have replaced the plugs recently and they are gapped at .035, i have new wires, but the when I replaced the cap and rotor with the plugs I didn't know i had a 76 distributor, and the rotor was incorrect, i believe the cap and wires were ok, but I put the old ones back on when the rotor caused me issues. |

another issue I just realized is that I may have replaced the coil with one for a 66, I should probably get one compatible with the 76? due to the upgraded mopar ignition. |

Cap and rotor are same for '66 and '76. If you replaced the coil because of a carbon track on the tower, but kept the old coil wire, there's still a current leakage path along the tower. Gotta replace both at same time. Eventually you may want to do the HEI upgrade . |
