Hello Everyone again,
I was the guy that wrote the last posting entitled "Building a Motor for the first time". I called the mechanic that was in charge of working on the motor and he gave me the specs of what has been done to the motor. I will list them, but my question is, should I go with a 400 or 500 cfm holley carb? And, please, if anyone has any more suggestion on how to get my Cuda going faster, please let me know. Here's the specs. Jahns 11-1 Aluminum Pistons, chrome moly rings -- Cylinders bored to 238 -- motor was line bored, block milled, heads surfaced -- rods aligned & balanced -- new cam, rod & main bearings -- new timing chain & gears -- Isky VA 160 cam -- Isky push rods & lifters -- Isky valve springs, retainers & keepers -- Heads polished & matched ports -- Combustion chambers polished -- New oil pump -- Crank Micro polished.

Thats it, if you have any suggestion on a tranny, rearend, ignition, carb, and suspension, please let me know.

Thank you,
Hoemy

Sounds like a nice setup. How fast is it now? How fast do you want to go? How much money can you spend?

Also, what car will it go in. How do you want it to drive on the street, or will it be strip only.

I personally have not ran this motor, but the guy that I bought it off of said he ran mid to low 13's in a thirty something truck. I am going to be puttng this in a '67 Cuda. I am pretty sure my Cuda is lighter than this guy's truck so I'm hoping to hit high to mid twelve's. I also want to know if it is worth the money to switch from the Mopar electronic ignition to MSD, or if I should just leave it. I've decided to go with the 8 3/4, instead of the Ford 9 inch. About the carb, I didn't get any responses from this forum, but I heard from my local Mopar club that the Carter 500cfm might be better that the Holley 500cfm. Anybody got an opinion on that one?

I think the Edelbrock/Carter 500 (same carb) is a very nice carb, and easier to tune than a Holley, especially for street driveability combined with strip performance. If you really want to go 12s in a '67 Cuda, then you will likely need a bigger carb, like a 600-650. I would try the 500 first and see how it runs. 12s/13s are not all that easy with a Slant, especially in a full-bodied car. Will you be using steep gears and slicks/DOT drag tires? You'll likely need them to turn those kinds of times.

The MSD will be a bit better than the factory Mopar ignition, and you might see a tenth or two gain. Dialing in the carb, timing curve, and total advance will have more influence on how fast it runs.

You will also need a high-stall converter (if auto) to run 12s/13s - at least 3000 rpm stall (9.5-10"), and likely more like 3500-4000 (8-9").

Happy building,

Lou
