Over the weekend I installed a Newer Super Six in my 68 Dart. The exhaust bolts to the manifold, but with the stock pipe, It moves more gravel revving it than my leaf blower does! I got a quote from Midas: $260 for 2 1/4 pipe from header to tip, with a flowmaster muffler. Sound reasonable? Has anyone had any good/bad experiences w/ Midas. Any other suggestions for the puget sound area? |

Don't know about your area, but here in LA that would be high. I have the same setup as you and it ran me $180.00 out the door from a local small shop. My advice shop around. |

I once had Midas quote a "full 2 inch system" and had them do the job. When I went to pick-up the car I saw that they had cut-off the 1 3/4 head pipe just behind the center link, then welded-on 2 inch pipe from there. We had a heated discussion about what a "full system" means, they said that the could not get a 2 inch exhaust flange that bolts to the manifold, I said BS and walk up to their rack of flanges and handed them one. After saying I would go to the BAR and BBB, they decided it was better to go back and bend the custom head pipe section and "up-size" that part of the system. I was not real happy with their BS and have had much better luck with local private owner exhaust shops. (I look for the guys with the race cars parked out back) DD |

To bad your on the east side. There is a good shop called "The Muffler Shoppe" in White Center that does excellent work. I got a 2" system put on for $180. All my Mopar friends also go there and have excellent results. Dave (the manager) does all the work, and if anything goes wrong, he will fix it for free, even if its a year down the road! |

I agree the price is high, even for Seattle. You will probably have better luck at an independent shop. When I lived there, I had Auburn Radiator and Muffler put on several exhaust systems. They always did top quality work for a reasonable price. The last time I had work done by them, they put a single pipe and stock muffler from the exhaust pipe "Y" out the back for $75. |

Travis- If you want to roll north to the end of 405 in Lynnwood, there is a shop on Hiway 99 called Pro Start Muffler & Brake. They do a lot of custom exhaust work and seem to know how to speak the language. Don't know how they might stack up for pricing, but you can call them at (425) 742-4711 and probably get an idea. They are located at 15020 Hwy 99, Lynnwood, WA. I have only used them for one job on a truck, but spent enough time talking to the manager about some of my cars to know he knows custom exhaust and how to build it. Good luck. Dave |
