Post subject:  Any 60-62 A-Bodies here w/the Prismatic Int Rearview Mirror?

Need people's help on this:

Picked up what I thought was the correct "Prismatic" interior rearview mirror (MoPar part #: 2082 954) for my 1960 V200 Valiant suburban today at the Spring Fling swap meet & show out here next to where I live, but all I bought was the actual mirror: it did not come with the mount and arm that holds it to the roof.

The spare mount arm with holding 'pod' I have here in my stash holds the mirror correctly, but the mount arm doesn't attach to the roof like the non-prismatic standard mirror arm of the original. The original has a thicker 'foot' with a mount arm that swivels in a ball joint, unlike the spare arm I have here which fits the mirror but is a 'fixed' arm, with a thin foot. The holes in the thin foot don't line up with the holes in the roof.

Perplexed. The way the arm and mirror of the original join together makes me think if someone had opted for the Prismatic 'optional' mirror, the dealer would simply unscrew the standard mirror, and the Prismatic mirror would thread into the arm, negating the need to replace the arm too. Which means then that I bought a Prismatic mirror that appears to be the correct size and shape but has a ball joint on the back with a protruding female receptacle with a flat side, vs. what I need which is a ball joint with a male threaded nipple that allows it to affix to the existing swing-arm. Or is this the case? Was there some kind of in-between male threaded-on-both end adapter that allowed the use of the arm and this mirror? Or was it a completely different arm?

If you look at this picture from the 60 Valiant station wagon article I just posted, the mirror is identical. See all the below photos as well. Click to make them larger.

Can anyone advise me what I'm missing?

Assembly you bought (w/thin mount foot) is identical to original equipment in my '62 Lancer. Beyond that…can't help!

Thanks Dan. I was just told this morning by Peter down in OZ (he has a pristine blue 61 Valiant) that his Prismatic rearview mirror that looks identical to the unit I bought has a male-threaded stem off the ball joint on the back. Which allows it to thread into the existing adjustable hanging arm.

That means the mirror I have is probably 1962-64.

Nuts.

PS - did look for what we discussed but didn't turn up anything. A real dearth of early A-body parts at the meet.
