Less weight on the front , ease of access to engine, suspension etc. More design freedom to mount / locate components etc. Greg |

That's a lot of structure to remove. It's not just along for the ride. Unless you plan on running a roll cage with tubes extended to the subframe in front of the suspension mounting points I would keep them. They also keep the engine compartment much cleaner. |

Yep, on "unibody" cars they're structural components. When removed, they need to be replaced with something performing the equivalent work. Hell, even the bolt-on fenders add a small structural function to this style engineering. |
