Post subject: | best cam for my setup |
I am refreshing (not rebuilding, just a general tear down with all new distributor, water/fuel/oil pumps, coil and timing set) my 1969 slant out of a Valiant. It is replacing the tired slant in my 1977 D100 truck with a 3spd manual column shift. I have the engine tore down and getting ready to paint. The block Is bare externally (still has head and all internals on/in it). The engine has i0k miles on it and has great compression and all internals look great. The mods I will have are Clifford headers and a Super Six 2bbl intake/carb. Since I am doing the timing chain and cam gear, I was thinking about upgrading the cam. I was told to swap the cam out of my truck engine to replace the stock '69 cam but I think I want something more aggressive but would like to use the stock springs and such so I don't need to mess with the head. I saw that the Erson RV cam was a popular choice. I'd honestly like a little meaner idle sound, but I think I'd probably have to upgrade the springs and up the compression...which I don't really want to do at this time. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys! |

Quote: up the compression
is possibly the best thing you can do,,no need to go extreme,, but a .040 to .050 cut will get you in the mid 8's for compression. will still be a regular gas motor. you can get your existing cam re ground at Oregon for about 150.00 including shipping out and back,, lots of interesting cam articles on this forum. head milling 65.00 re ground cam 150.00 that is 215.00 if you can come up with another 100.00 and have the valves - seats re ground, maybe a bowl buster porting job,, keep lift and RPM's within reason and you can get by with the re using the stock springs - retainers.. or watch e bay, I have seem wolverine 340 springs for less than 50.00,,, |
