Post subject: | my homemade header... |
When I first got my Dutra Duals, I pieced together a makeshift header with various pieces of SS tubing I had, and my rudimentary welding skills... Later, I had the help of a friend who is a great welder, and makes nice clean Tig welds. After a few iterations on the original design, my header was complete...but I since I had pieced it together with various different tubing pieces over time, it was multi-colored and needed something...ceramic coating!! http://s785.photobucket.com/user/67dart ... ort=3&o=50 http://s785.photobucket.com/user/67dart ... ort=3&o=51 I picked it up today from the coater...check it out. http://s785.photobucket.com/user/67dart ... x.jpg.html brian |

Nice work! I would probably call this a "head pipe" instead of a header. Lou |

Yes, you're right. I call it a down pipe, but my buddy called it a header. It's not perfect by any means, but I didn't like the patchwork look of the different sections; they colored differently with heat. I used mixed SS pieces I had (some magnetic, some not), but the welds have held for the last few years, so I think it'll hold up. The coating vendor that I used still does the inside as well, so the pipes should last a long time. b |

That looks pretty nice! It's kind of what I wanted to achieve with my dual Dutra duals, but the output of the rear manifold had very little room between the starter and firewall, and to clear the clutch linkage I was forced to either bend up a bundle of snakes, or just tee the front exhaust into the rear head pipe. Which is what happened. I don't like the way mine is set up, but it works. Yours looks like it will really make some torque. |

Yes, I guess there's more room with an automatic linkage. brian |

...to bolt that baby back up to the Dutra Duals! The rest of my exhaust system is a homemade hodge podge of bits, but it has good flow, I'll work on that later... I have something in mind...I'll share when I get to it. brian |
