Does anybody use a PCV Air Oil Separator?
I've been reading about them recently. Could the 225 Slant Six profit by having one?
JEGS has a Performance Products 52205 Air Oil Separator for $49.99 and free shipping.

Yes, for about a year now and love it!. A must have item to keep the intake and valves clean.

Idle is far better.....it was great before but this seals the deal, just awesome! Over time the idle really crispend up. I ran several tanks of Gumout to help clean off the valves too.

By the way, get a SMP V180 PCV and toss the plastic V165 that most folks run. The V180 is super quiet.

Look at my pictures for the install. Click on the red link below my name, go to slide so mode and go to full screen.

I drain out the blow by about every other week on my shot engine with 280,000 miles on it.

$50 bucks shipped? I got a better deal: How about 18.38 shipped? This has a cool tube that shows you how much oil you collected like an old coffee pot and a knurled drain cap. And for 18 bucks shipped, thats worth the fittings alone. plus it comes in a few colors. PCV to one port, engine vacuum to the other, thats it.

I recall reading that the 3/8 and even 1/2 in line compressor air/oil separators wouldn't flow enough for a car engine. Do they actually work?

Reed,

I have to imagine that if there is more blow-by than a 3/8" oil/air separator will handle then the engine is pretty tired. The PCV valve is still the major restriction in the system.

Wont flow enough what? Air? Look at a pcv valve, the port is dinky. I think either l work. Only reason these were not stock is people would never drain them. Simple design. Suppose you could put a vacuum operated switch on the bottom to drain into pan at shutdown like an evap shutter on an air cleaner. But physically looking at your oil every month is a good indicator of its condition.

Yes they work and work well. Lots of guys in the SRT-4 world use them,one even did a dyno comparison between the $85 "catch can" and what is known as the "Home Depot catch can". No affect on performance whatsoever, he also did a week long test with each can,and the home depot can actually caught more oil.

I bought the gold can style and they do not have any internal filtering like the Jeg's unit or Harbor Freight's.s. The eBay can also have massive vacuum leaks. So you need to redo all the fittings. It would also be nice to install some type of filter to make them work better.

For Reed: You have a good point! Which I was also curious about last year.
I really like it with a VC180 but also tried a VC214 which is the V8 Hemi high-flow PCV. It required the carb to be readjusted because it draws far more vacuum. The metal body VC180 works better and it is tuned for the SL6. No noise either..... A good replacement for the noisy and cheap plastic PCV. The 214 PCV did collapse the hoses so I had to buy some heavily reinforced hose for that experiment.

You should look at the You-Tube video of the 500 HP Cadilac engine. They used a clear base so the video camera would catch how much oil was being pulled in running through the gears on a normal acceleration. Very surprising!

On the Jegs version I Dremeled out the inlet so it would not whistle to double the inlet size to a full 3/8". That was annoying the first week of driving.
