You know there are some things in life that you look at and say, wow that is so cool, but I will never be able to afford one. For most of us a real Hyperpak manifold fell into that category. A set of Hyperpak exhaust manifolds was even more out of reach for the common man. So years ago when I bought a "Fat Pack" manifold from Doug, that was almost a lifetime achievement for me. Then 3 years ago I sold mine to Wayne after never even seeing it on my car. But selling it helped finance some of the parts I needed to get my car done. But I never thought that I would own another one.

But surprise! surprise! Just out of dumb luck, I looked on E-bay and there they were with a buy it now price that was to good to be true. I read the add 3 times and then hit the button. I think they were only up on the site for a few minutes.

They showed up today. The gentleman that I bought them from was a honest, stand-up guy, even after I told him what they were worth, and he knew that I paid much less than that for them.

I am not sure that the intake has ever been used. The exhaust manifolds have a little bit of carbon in them but not much. The exhaust manifold has the serial number and it has "change A" beside it. So there must have been at least one change.

Pretty Happy to have them.

That is pretty amazing! Nice score and congratulations!

I would love to see some molds made of those exhaust manifolds for reproduction purposes, but with O2 sensor bungs in place.

Yes but the market is probably just to small to justify the costs. And can a mold be made without the destruction of the manifolds?

Rick congrats! I am also glad I helped you to get the blue car finished. The fat pack has since changed hands but is in the slant family. I have ( with a very good friends help) acquired a good Clifford Hyper Pak casting!

I have been quiet about this since Zilla is not fond of the long runner intakes and was steering me in another direction. Grasshopper has disappointed the Master once again! I do have a couple of other options for the Piggie so all is good. Exciting stuff, thanks for sharing!

What's the shrinkage with cast iron?

I know with aluminum, the mold has to be bigger than the end product, so you can' just make a mold from the original.


And just put the O2 sensor bung on the downpipe......

I am sure doc n answer that, he has cast both al and iron parts.

I agree, it's easy enough to put the o2 bung right after the manifold.

Gotta agree with the Dad on this one. A good scanning and printing, with the additional of bolt bosses along the sides of the printed masters would get you pre-made core boxes for the internal passages, too.
I would think someone who knows his printer's programming language could modify the scan "picture" to add the bosses.
It would be sweet to be able to pack the plastic, length-wise split manifold full of sodium silicate treated casting sand, gas it to cure with CO2, then unbolt the halves and have your internal cores for casting the real thing in cast iron.

Oh.....heck of a score Rick.....I'm jealous.....I want those exhausts.

1 to 1-1/2% is a good starting point for cast iron shrinkage, and its one of the cheapest metals to get cast, at least here on the east coast.
