I'm in the process of rebuilding a 225 out of a 1974 van. I've hit a bit of a hiccup, since I do not know what this part technically is. It bolts to the end of the intake next to the carb. I was hoping I could get some insight into what the part is called and where I can find a replacement. |

You can replace that with a flat piece of steel with 2 bolt holes in it. Its an EGR valve. |

EGR valve. You should be able to find a replacement at any well stocked parts store. |

Maybe, but don't bet on it—the poster is in California, where the rules generally forbid the removal of emissions-related equipment. Vehicles older than 1975 are (currently) exempt from the Smog Check program, so violating the do-not-remove law likely won't be discovered on a '74 van, but the law's still there. As for what to replace the EGR valve with, if the original poster wants to keep the EGR system working, see second paragraph here. |

Thanks for the help everyone. Dan, the engine came out of a 74 but it's going into a 70 swinger, so smog and emissions are no issue for me, I suppose I should have included that. |

In that case, by all means block it off with a homemade or purchased Slant-6 EGR blockoff plate. |
