Hello everyone, been a while. Here's the deal, Im looking at a 76 Aspen 4 door for parts. Does this necessarily mean it would have a cast crank engine? I cant tell from outside what the difference is. Anyway, Ill be using the drivetrain {the body is just eaten up with rust BAD!} to install in a 1975 Plymouth Duster that is really decent shape. Would a cast crank engine be a bad choice? BTW, the duster was originally a 318 car that I bought with no drivetrain for 500 bucks.

No. Forged cranks were used at the start of '76 production. Look at the stamped engine number. If there's an "E" after the "225", it's a cast-crank engine.

No, it'd be fine assuming it's in good condition.

Slant-6 engine doesn't fit V8 K-frame in '67-up A-bodies.

Thanks Dan. I guess I will be looking for a "K" . It will be different going from a 318 to a slant but I'm thinking it should be a good deal. The Duster was a 318, power disc brake and A/C with an 8 1/4 rear car originally. It still has the rear so that's good. Of course it might be easier to go with the V8 but, I like the idea of the slant. Hey I'll also get some spare parts from the Aspen.

Back in the late 90's I acquired a 1976 Aspen to get the 225 and 904 out of to replace the window block special in a '75 Dart Sport I was helping a buddy with...it was a late 1975 date coded car (love that bronze paint), but had a forged crank engine in it...most of the "late" '76 Volares and Aspens I've seen in junkyards (when you could spot a few examples in mopar row) had cast crank engines in them.
