Post subject:  Quality of Bernaum's Ball and Trunion Repair Kit

I recently bought a replacement kit for my 65 Dodge A100 truck. The boot was torn and since I'm rebuilding the engine I thought I would replace it with a new kit. Took it to a local driveshaft shop to get it installed and the guy told me the kit was cheap China made product and probably wouldn't last. Says the pin didn't look like tempered steel. My question is has anyone bought Bernaums kit before and how did it perform? Has the kit held up? Haven't yet installed the kit since the shop now put doubt in my mind as to the quality.

Here are some reviews of Andy Bernbaum, several Chrysler forums have similar comments - YMMV

That's unfortunate…sounds like he and his crew are past due to retire. :-(

Maybe try Antique Auto Parts Cellar or Svigel's (VERY VERY basic website—place has been in business for many, many years, though).

This is an old thread. I'm sure you already got what you wanted handled, but just my experience:

I bought Bernbaum's boot kit for my 63 Dart two years ago. Had it installed March 2014. Was just under the car swapping the park lock cable a week ago and noticed that while the clamps were still there, the rubber boot had sheared cleanly across the middle, and any grease from inside the boot had long since flung itself out. Who knows how long it's been this way, but certainly doesn't look like the boot hit something.

Anyone know of another source for this boot kit besides Bernbaums? I'd hate to replace it with a kit from them and spend another $100 having it installed only to have it tear again. Make me wonder how good the rubber is in this kit.
