So a local modern Mopar club was having a Dyno Day at a friend of mines shop. I mainly went to have a good time and watch a lot of late model guys get their feelings hurt. It was a lot of fun, and there were some cars there making some great numbers. Biggest numbers went to a SRT challenger with a blown 426 stroker built by Petty Enterprises. It made just shy of 600hp at the wheels! Good numbers, but pricey! He had over $100k in his car!

Anyways, after watching all the late model stuff run, one of my friends said I needed to put my '64 Dart on the dyno and see what a stock 170 puts down! So we strapped her down, fired her up and started rowing through the gears. First pull I made 58whp and 81tq. The next run we pulled the air filter and made 59whp and 84tq. At this point I decided I wanted to see 60hp at the wheels! So we grabbed an electric leaf blower and crammed it over the carb. Fired it back up, rowed to 3rd gear and layed the pedal down! After turning it as high as it'd go, we wound up with just over 61whp and 89ftlbs! I was ecstatic! It put out almost exactly what I was expecting.

Now that I have a base line, it's time to figure out how I'm gonna make some more power. Draw thru turbo, 210ci stroker or 225...[/img]

Red Green performed the very same leaf blower method of boost to an old heap sometime ago utilizing duct tape.

 That's less than what my last VW Bug made! 88hp 93 ft/lbs.

OK, to be fair your slant is understressed at those numbers and would last 4 more decades. My bug was essentially a hand grenade; I rarely went 1000 miles without fixing something.

If you have less than $10000 in your car you make more HP/$ than the SRT...(sorry Mr Petty)

Yeah, you can buy 700+hp for $60k in a hellcat...in a video I saw, they tested at the rear wheels and it was 700 hp, so they guessed it was pushing ~750 at the crank. I'd hate to have spent $100k to get less hp than what you can buy off the shelf for $40k less...ugh..

BTW, what do you all think of the BMW I8 having piped in engine sound...?

It's a cool car, but fake engine noise turns me off, especially at $130k...

My daily driver is a Pontiac G8 with a factory hot cam LS3 crate motor that probably makes 440-450 HP at the wheels with all the bolt-ons. I honestly don't know what I'd do with more power than that. I need stickier rubber as it is. This thing will spin the tires all the way into 2nd gear if you want to show off.

I never thought I'd say it before owning this car, but I think there might actually be such a thing as "enough power."

My bug engines did a fantastic job with some of the explosions. Even had - no idea why or how - the side of a cylinder blow off. Must have had some internal cracks I couldn't see when I got them. Nope, didn't drop a valve either.

You need Soundracer. Had a Mercedes E320 wagon with the premium sound system and put one of these http://www.gizmag.com/soundracer-v8-video-review/14019/ in. Worked really well, confused the hell out of people when the windows were down.
