Post subject:  One step forward, two steps back...

My project has been one step forwards, two steps back...

I had sealed the coolant leaks, got everything back on there turned on the key and gas was spilling all over the engine. My Webers have a 6mm ball bearing pressed into an unused port on the external body of the carb. The little ball fell out on one of the carbs.

How do I press these in? I can't find the ball, but I can get one, or tap the hole and put an NPT plug in there.

I assume they are simply pressed in, but maybe this is done with the metal warmed? Gas!

Maybe I should just tap it and plug it.

Suggestions?

I drilled it with a Q bit, tapped it with a 1/8-27 NPT and plugged it up. I couldn't find a 6mm ball bearing and since it literally fell out, I didn't trust pressing one back in again. I'll keep an eye on the front carb, it still has the ball...I didn't want to pull it out, drill, tap and plug yet. Too many irons in the fire. The good news is, when/if that ball falls out, it's the front carb so I don't have to remove it to do the fix. The bad news is...if that front carb's ball falls out while the engine is hot I'm toast. I simply can't believe that ball fell out of there, it's like my car is possessed or something (not in a self-repairing Christine kind of way, more like a self-loathing I want to kill myself sort of way).
